Communicating without wasting energy

  1. To talk simply — so others understand without wasting too much energy trying to figure out the meaning.
  2. The energy used to understand grows as the communication complexity grows. The area under the curve is then the wasted energy in communication — which also grows.
  3. The problem is that in mathematics, economics, research, business and everyday life we use complex communication way too much.
  4. This is all fine as a personal strategy of social manipulation — but as a whole for the human community the end result is worse. All the mental energy gone into understanding what others truly mean is essentially wasted energy.
  5. Of course there are times when complexity is needed. However, it should always try to be as simple as possible and only grow in complexity if need be. The only thing that matters is that understanding moves from one person to another. The means of how to do that should use as little energy as possible.
